Some of you may remember our regular reports regarding the ex-pat football night that kicked off last year. The night proved to be very popular with both boys and girls alike. FA Football Coach Phil McEvoy received a huge boost this summer when he was asked to take on the Cómpeta Junior Teams for the coming season.

This means there will be some changes to times, days and the ages involved, although final details aren't yet known. One thing will remain the same though, and that's the safe, fun environment the players will train in. Phil explained to
The Grapevine, “ Sessions will still be fun but hard work and all are welcome, although this year there will be a lot more integration between the Spanish and ex-pat kids, which is great. We'll have increased numbers so the players will be broken down into their own specific age groups which they'll play and train with, which will be better for all involved”
One added advantage is that all the players will now be able to play in the Friendly Leagues if they wish to. Emphasis will be on active participation by all and not on winning alone, which can often be the case. Training will also be twice a week and the Ayuntamiento have plans to reduce the costs to parents. This represents even better value this year, with more training, matches and less to pay.

“The council have been really supportive again and are right behind both the football and basketball. I'm hoping this years junior football is going to be a great success so I can repay their faith in me” Phil told us. Lets hope everyone gets behind it to ensure that we get the most out of the fabulous facilities we're lucky enough to have access to.
