Do you Know that children can get arthritis?

More than 2000 children are currently diagnosed with this crippling disease in Spain.1 in 5 children throughout the world are born with the illness
.
The Art Group in Sedella are raising funds to help research and raise awareness of Juvenile Arthritis and how it effects children and their families. “We have a family in our local community which is struggling with a young child who was diagnosed with childhood arthritis at only 22 months and we all agreed we wanted to do something to help”, says Elena, “We were all shocked at the severity of the condition in young children and how little was known of the disease across Europe”.

The art group is raising money for Moving4, a Spanish charity that supports much needed research and also provides funds for training of doctors as well as giving support to families and children who suffer from this chronic childhood illness in Spain.

They also work with other charities both in Britain and the United States to pool knowledge and to support research into the disease.

There has been a good response to the fundraising so far. Local schools have taken part in a painting competition that successfully raised awareness of Juvenile Arthritis amongst teachers, children and parents. It also resulted in the schools donating over 700 euros from sales at school markets. There were 3 overall winners of the art
competition and other prizes were awarded. The winning pictures will be on exhibition at the next fundraising event – a sale of paintings and other art works.
The art group are holding a special exhibition and the sale of art works during the summer fiesta held over the first weekend in August in Sedella. All proceeds are going to Juvenile Arthritis.
“We are very pleased to have the full support of our Alcalde and the Ayuntamiento de Sedella. We are also grateful for the help of the Centro de Visitantes which has given us permission to use the venue for our event. Everyone is working so hard to make this
event a success,” explains Elena, ” All members of our group are donating some of their paintings to sell and we are lucky that local professional artists have also generously given works for the sale. One of our members, Chris, has dedicated a lot of time and
effort into producing and sponsoring all our materials. This is a huge contribution to our
fundraising effort.”

The Art Group is hoping for a huge turnout for their event so that they can raise as much
as possible for this worthwhile cause. Please give them your generous support.
