Event Viking Festival
Where? Catoira, Galicia
What? Celebrates the defense of Galicia against the vikings.

Event La Traida del Agua
Where? Lomo Magullo, Telde (Gran Canaria)
What? A water fight! See a video of the Traida del Agua water fight.

Event Dreambeach
Where? Almeria.
What? Music festival featuring The Prodigy and Pendulum.

Event Feria de Malaga
Where? Malaga
What? One of the biggest parties in Andalusia. Flamenco, dancing (and flamenco dancing!), bullfighting, fireworks and general partying in the street.

August 11, 2013 (second Sunday of August
Event Octopus festival
Where? Carballiño, Galicia.
What? A celebration of Galicia's most famous dish.

Event Releasing of the ducks
Where? Can Picafort in Mallorca
What? Live ducks have been replaced by plastic ducks since 2007. Usually the same date each year.

What? Wine festival. Same date every year (Assumption Day)

Event Gracia festival
Where? The Gracia district of Barcelona
What? Fireworks, children's drawing contests, dancing, drinking and more in Gracia's festival.

Event Fiesta de Agua
Where? Vilagarcia de Arousa
What? Giant water fight. Note that the town is sometimes spelt as Villagarcia (with two l's). Same date every year.

What? Barcelona's Gay Pride. The main days of the event are from June 27 to 29.

Where? Popular throughout Spain but particularly in Lalín in Galicia, Palamós and Roses in Girona, Alicante and Gran Canaria
What? A celebration of the longest day of the year.

Event: Cinema Jove International Film Festival
Where? Valencia
What? Youth cinema festival.

Event: Noche en Blanca de Flamenco
Where? Cordoba
What? (Mostly) free flamenco concerts throughout the night.

June 22-July 8, 2014 (dates TBC)
Event: International Festival of Music and Dance
Where? Granada
What? A celebration of flamenco and classical music that attracts some excellent musicians.

June 23-25, 2014 (TBC)
Event: Fiesta del Agua y Jamon
Where? Lanjarón, in the Alpujarras region near Granada
What? Water and Ham Festival, the town's two most famous exports. The water festival is just an excuse for a giant water fight. Revellers from all over the country take to the streets with buckets and water pistols. Then they feast on locally-produced ham. A novel event that is worth a visit.

What? It's a rock music festival!

Event: Batalla del Vino
Where? In Haro, La Rioja
What? A 'wine battle' much like the Tomatina Tomato Fight, only with locally produced wine! Takes place in the morning - so don't be late! Check out this Batalla del Vino Party Tour

Where? Around the Plaza Dos de Mayo square in Madrid.
What? Event in Madrid's trendy Malasaña district to commemorate the 1808 uprising against the French.

Where? Murcia.
What? Alternative music festival with a focus on Spanish acts, though this year Phoenix, Damon Albarn and The Prodigy will also perform.

What? Sounds like it should be a tribute to the underrated 1986 film, Short Circuit, but it's actually a short film festival.

What? Tapas route. Get a drink and tapas for 2 euros in bars in the Sant Antoni area of Barcelona. .

What? Cannabis trade fair! Promotes the legal use of cannabis in Spain.

What? The second IPA beer festival celebrates the emerging international craft beer scene.

May 15-18, 2014 - Open de Espana Golf tournament at the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla in Seville.

Where? Jerez in Andalusia.
What? A celebration of the famous horses of Jerez.

What? It's not just the French that eat snails - they're also a delicacy in Catalonia too. This festival celebrates the culinary delights of the little molluscs.

What? General city festivities. There is also a bullfighting festival to coincide.

What? A celebration of sweet and dessert wines in Jerez, the home of sherry.

Event: Feria de la Manzanilla
Where? Sanlucar de Barrameda, Andalusia.
What? If you like your sherry, this should be up your street, as the locals drink vast quantities of their celebrated local alcoholic beverage!

What? Alternative music festival. Pixies are headlining in 2014.

What? There are a number of religious pilgrimages in Spain, but this is one of the biggest.

What? Arts festival that acts as a kind of extended pre-festival to the Malaga film festival that starts on the 20th.

What? Half marathon and 5km run in the capital.

What? The beginning of the year's bullfights. Fights run every Sunday until October, with extra events throughout the year.

Event: Real Madrid v Barcelona.
Where? Expect to see every bar in the country full of people supporting one side or the other.
What? The biggest match in Spanish soccer, known as 'El Clasico' among Spaniards.
